    Great video-thanks for making this! I've had three cylinders I've been putting off for about 10 years because I've never repacked one before. It doesn't look too hard now; I just need to track down the correct seals. Appreciate the clear instructions!

    I have a float valve on my cattle water tank and put a siphon hose from that tank to the goat water tank and then a siphon hose from the goat water tank to my (mostly dry) pond. The last siphon hose had a freeze miser on it and it worked great until it got clogged up with some grass.

    • @GrazingAcresFarm
      @GrazingAcresFarm 25 дней назад

      I've never tried that but I'm sure it would work great until you get that clog, like you experienced. I now use a float valve with a adjustable trickle feature. The tank overflows of course but I have the lower side leaning towards a fence so the cows don't slip on ice.

    this video is super informative and well-produced! but honestly, i think using shrink bags might not be the most eco-friendly option for packaging poultry. there should be more focus on sustainable alternatives that can still keep food fresh without harming the environment. what do you all think?

      Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I do agree there is enough plastic in the world but paper wrap isn't an option long term, it just don't hold up as well. Maybe they should make them biodegradable then they would breakdown when recycled. Thoughts?

    So i think i heard you say it was 18 degrees when you first walked out to check it? the miser seemed to be allowing water through at the same rate, about the same amount of trickle - as i do when i run my faucets manually. My question is - will it hold that same flow rate if the temp got down to 0 throught the night or would it let even more water pass through? I ask bc on vids where they do a test on a new one. You put it in the freezer for an hour then immediatly connect it. Since the device is near freezing, from being in the freezer an hour - a lot of water is coming through and if it's warm out, the miser will all but stop dripping. Test complete. Unit is working right. Thing is, i just saw on connected after being in the freezer and that thing was pouring out water full force almost! then it slowed and stopped. The way they should work is no matter if the temp is 30 or -0 degrees - it should only let water through at the rate yours was doing at 18 degrees. What do you think?

      I'm not 100% sure but I will say it's several hundred feet. It's not too often I have to use more than 1 reel to make it across our pastures. I'm slowly switch to geared poly reels for grazing, much faster to reel in.

      So, so glad the video was helpful. I remember when our little guy broke his leg and I was in full panic mode. I hated watching him struggle, so heart breaking. Our healed up well, I remember when I weaned him and he was trying to ride heifers and it warmed my heart as I knew my work on his leg was healed like it was never broke. I suggest about every 12 days you check the wrap/ maybe even change it out. I remember I had to adjust the pvc.

      @@GrazingAcresFarm Going to start the project this weekend. I first called local ford dealer - Capital Tractor Inc. in Greenwich, NY to get a price for them to do it. They are very good and I've used them for parts and a major engine problem I did not want to attempt without a shop. We also bought a little 2019 MAHINDRA 1626 HST from them 4 years ago so we have a good relationship with them. The quoted me a price of $193.67 for seal kit and $195 labor ($130/hr x 1.5 hours). That was the price for me bring them the hydraulic cyinder to the shop! I ordered SML41555 Replacement Seal Kit Fits New Holland Loaders 2-1/4"Bore 1-3/8" Rod - $38.20, U Cup Seal Installation Tools for Hydraulic Cylinder Piston, Seal Twistors Install Tools 3 pcs - $15.99 and Multi-Purpose Cartridge Filter Canister Belt Strap Wrench, 19.7"(500mm) Capacity Adjustable Strap and 8.46"(215mm) Steel Handle - $8.99 from Amazon. If the pasture has grass it knocks down the high spots but nothing like it does when the soil is bare. I will say the harrow is heavy and that helps it reach through the grass somewhat.

    How often is worming needed?

    • @GrazingAcresFarm
      @GrazingAcresFarm 6 месяцев назад

      Depends on the time of the year and how short you are grazing your pastures. Parasites live close to the soil so if your grazing short stubbles then I would worm every couple months. If your doing rotational grazing and the grass is a taller when the herd moves then a couple times a year is enough and Fall is a great time to start.

    Thanks for this video! I don't know if my search engine is just lame, but I struggled to find information about this subject. I have a young chick that is about 3-4 wks., and she/he? Has what resembles a spur, and looks like the front 3 toe claws, as if it were a 4th? But from what I understand, the spurs aren't really visible when they are so young. So how could this be? Well, thanks to this video and the information you shared, (& the pictures are really helpful too!) I can see that hens actually can get them also, though less pronounced. Of course, my chicks are fairly small so it might be too soon to tell, but it did make some sense out of what I was seeing. I'm a fairly new chicken owner, so learning these facts helps expand my own knowledge base. Thanks for presenting this topic in a brief and easy to understand way. I don't mind videos being a bit long, with thorough information, but it's sometimes not necessary. Egg bound hens, maybe, but It's a simple question, it was nice to have a simple answer!👍😎 Thank you~

    If you had a way to unroll hay, that would get rid of the “dead” spots where no grass is grown in yet, and it will allow some OM into your field = more grass all the way around. I’ve experimented the same way and unrolling has been the most helpful way to feed hay and keep cows from trotting and for bail waist and clumping. And if you are against spraying, mowing blackberries year after year will get rid of them. Just make sure they don’t seed. Don’t have to go crazy with your mower. Keep it up! Great stuff!

I know they’re a grass genetic breed and all but what is your experience with calf growth and how long does it take to finish a pure lowline steer. Thanks!

    • @GrazingAcresFarm
      @GrazingAcresFarm 10 месяцев назад

      I love the Low Line cattle, such fun to raise. Yes, they are a little slower growing and don't get nearly as big as other breeds. My experience is that they take closer to 30 months to finish out. They get to where they look like short fat meatballs. Best of luck!
